Miss Universe Riyo Mori Crowned, Miss USA Rachel Smith Falls On Video

Miss Universe Crowned: Miss Japan Riyo Mori is the new Miss Universe. Miss USA Rachel Smith came in fifth but her trip, fall and recovery was deserving of a crown of grace.

The beauty from the US of A took a spill during the presentation of the evening gown ceremony at the pageant. She bounced back to her feet, smiled and struck a pose.

Riyo Mori became the surprise winner of Miss Universe in Mexico City, Mexico, beating out favorites from Brazil, Venezuela, Korea and USA.

Completing the Top 10, were the delegates from Tanzania, Angola, Nicaragua, Mexico and India.

The top 15 finalists were the delegates from Denmark, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Thailand.

Philippines took the Miss Photogenic Award for the 3rd consecutive year, while Miss China took the Miss Congeniality prize.

The semifinalists' group was diverse, and there were some surprises like Czech Republic and Ukraine (although experts mentioned that they would be some of Donald Trump's picks).

Nicaragua placed in the top 10 for the first time in history, after having a Top 15 placement in 1977. Korea's placement was the first since 1988.

Tanzania and Slovenia got their first placements in Miss Universe history.

Mori, 20, is the second of Japanese heritage to be crowned Miss Universe in 48 years. The first Miss Universe winner from Japan was Akiko Kojima in 1959.

Even though the crowd booed her after her fall, Miss USA '07 Rachel Smith won the spanish crowd over after speaking in their own language in one segment.

Miss Japan may be Miss Universe but Miss USA Rachel Smith's stumble and recovery might be the most endearing moment of pageant.

Jordin Sparks Crowned American Idol Champ

Jordin Sparks was born singing according to her mother and on last Wednesday night the 17 year-old with the powerful voice was crowned “American Idol” on the hit television show of the same name.

The announcement that the Arizona teenager had beaten out Blake Lewis, 25, the beat-boxer from Washington, came at the end of a two-hour spectacle at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

"I've just been trying to top myself each week," Sparks told The Associated Press. "I would sing my song and after I was done I was like, `OK, what am I going to do next week that's going to be ... either just as good or better."

When her name was announced Sparks, sporting a designer gown and glamorous hair-do, looked shocked for a moment and then became effusive.

“Thank you so much for everything," she told the crowd. "Mom, Dad, I love you. Nana, Papa, P.J., thank you guys.” Then she broke into a rendition of "This Is My Now," the tune picked by viewers in a new online "American Idol" songwriting contest.

Sparks won a recording contract as part of her "Idol" prize, but Lewis hasn't yet secured a deal.
