LOS ANGELES Katharine McPhee is not taking home the title of "American Idol," but her fans predict she'll still up up a winner in the music industry.

Leesa Bellesi, a dance instructor and writer from Laguna Beach, says "It's gonna happen. Everything that she dreamed or wanted is going to happen."

Bellesi was among hundreds of McPhee fans who showed up tonight at Universal CityWalk to root for the 22-year-old Los Angeles native. The show was broadcast live on a giant screen, and cheers erupted every time the camera turned to the sultry songstress. Boos rang out for eventual winner Taylor Hicks.

McPhee's grandmother, Gloria Burch, from Bellevue, Washington, also was there. She said she's still proud of her granddaughter. Says Burch "She's going to be a star."

Spielberg contacts 'Idol' runner-up

Everything happens for a reason. For American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee the reason she did not win the popular singing competition, might be because she's destined to be a movie star.

The California beauty has apparently won over director Steven Spielberg, who has requested a private meeting with her.

"When you get some phone calls or you hear rumours ... it definitely gives you a little bit of hope," she says, adding she's also heard Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes want her to sing at their upcoming wedding.

"I've heard a lot of different rumours ... I really don't want to jinx anything to be honest."

One thing McPhee will confirm is her plans to collaborate with hit songwriter Diane Warren for her debut album.

"We want to get together and start writing some stuff together."
