iPhone hits US stores

Apple's new iPhone has finally hit shops in the US, getting gadget fans all hot under the collar.

The product which molds a phone, web browser and media player is priced at $500 (£250) and $600 (£300), depending on memory capacity.

Early reviews have been positive about the iPhone's large touch-sensitive screen and web browser, but have expressed concern over the quality of its virtual keyboard and lack of features such as picture messaging.

Shoppers in the US had been pitching camp outside Apple stores to be first in the queue for one of the devices.

Apple's co-founder and chief executive, Steve Jobs said: "We're building a fair number of them, but we may not (meet demand).

"We've taken our best guess, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it ain't enough."
